Consuming someone's life.

Diego Mosquera. 10th of May 2021.

"The invasion of and exploitation of one’s private life is being called “The New Cannibalism”—and it is that—psychological cannibalism. I was never a “missing person,” I have spent years trying to evade the relentless surveillance, and never succeeding."

Hola,

This is what Lydie wrote in her diary after she "disappeared" for 20 years and came back to the media's eyes. I have questioned myself about that urge to know about someone's doings whenever I start wondering about a friend's life. To what extent is this caring for somebody's wellbeing or just exploiting a need "to consume" someone's life?

Find here a list of things I found worth sharing from last week:

  1. Read. This article does a good job at framing the spirit that motivates the current protests in Colombia. The strike is not over, but the government is working very hard on deleting every trace of it on social media so it doesn't reach the international audience.
  2. Improve. Your cooking game by learning from the best chefs! (If someone wondered... my essential item in the kitchen is love 😝).
  3. Inspire. Your citizens to get a COVID-19 jab with lucha libre fighters, yoga and dancing.
  4. Learn. How to draw an iceberg and patronise people whenever they use "the tip of the iceberg" expression.
  5. Listen. To gen Z bringing back emo music! By the way, emo music was more welcoming to BIPOC and varied gender identities than other music genres in the 90s ans 2000s. I think the author needs to do better research on emo music before using lame American identity politics as clickbait.
  6. Aww♥️. That's me everytime I book an online Yoga class at 7 a.m. (Thank you Annika for the video!)

Thanks for reading and have a nice week!
